BELT RANK MEANINGS AND INTERPRETATIONS
Each belt in Tae Kwon Do represents a degree of
proficiency in mental and physical knowledge. This is a ten belt
system, the darker the color the stronger the student becomes in
mind and body. The significance of each color belt is listed below.
White Belt: Means a student is pure or without
knowledge of Tae Kwon Do.
Yellow & Orange Belt: Symbolizes that
the student is like that of a seed - it is beginning to see the
sunlight.
Green & Blue Belt: Represents a seedling
just beginning to grow.
Purple & Brown Belt: Designates that
the young plant is reaching to the sun.
Red & Pre-Black Belt: Signifies danger.
The student has good technical knowledge, but still lacks control
and discipline.
Black Belt: There are nine degrees of Black
Belt. It symbolizes the coming together of all previous color belts
and all grades of knowledge to form a degree.
Everyone's goal is to be a Black Belt. It signifies
a commitment to excellence in all areas of life.
