| The
name "Tiger Kim" was given because of his training
techniques as well as the values he represented. Tiger Kim loved
to train outdoors, especially in the woods where he could be
in communion with nature as he leaped and jumped like a tiger,
executing powerful and precise techniques. He was a stalwart
force behind his family, his students, and his community. He
truly symbolized the spirit of the tiger by continuously exemplifying
strong leadership in both the physical and mental arenas. Grandmaster
Tiger Kim was the embodiment of courage, honest, humbleness
and perseverance to those who know him.
Having
trained since the 1940's Grandmaster Kim compiled an all-star
resume of the championships such as the Korean Nationals,
Asian Championships and World Championships to name only a
few. Grandmaster Tiger Kim is one of a select few to have
achieved the highest rank in Tae Kwon Do: ninth dan black
belt. He became on of the pioneers of today's Tae Kwon Do
by integrating the disciplines of several martial arts into
Tae Kwon Do.
Through
this interdisciplinary approach to Tae Kwon Do, he developed
many spectacular techniques. The Korean Government chose Tiger
Kim, because of his talent and incredible martial art abilities,
to go to the U.S.A. in the early 1970's to promote Tae Kwon
Do. Soon after Grandmaster Tiger Kim's arrival in New York
City, he received national recognition with his trademark
simultaneous triple and quadruple kicks and pinpoint accurate
jumping hook kicks. Grandmaster Tiger Kim's amazing displays
won him guest appearances on ABC's Wide World of Sports, NBC's
Sports Spectacular, and CBS's Sports World programs. His incredible
physique, speed, agility and leaping ability have awed audiences
worldwide. Grandmaster Tiger Kim even received attention from
the U.S. government and was asked by the United States Military
Academy at West Pont to teach Tae Kwon Do to the cadets for
over ten years.
